Most of us know what Course Reps are. For those of you who are unsure Course Reps are students who represent their course. They are usually elected (not all the time, like it should be) by their fellow course students to voice issues to the staff & administrators of whatever course they represent. Their role is important. Why? Everybody comes to University to have an enjoyable experience; this includes socialising, meeting new people and interacting in various other methods. However, ultimately you are at University to study and to gain your qualification or degree. So if your learning experience is not up to scratch obviously you would like to improve it. This is where your Course Reps can help you.
Our University has a Course Rep system. Previously the Union did not have any evident involvement in the system. This was to radically change as my priority was to review and renovate it. Last year there were around 40 Reps that were identified within the University and this was a consistent figure. However this year with the help of a growing relationship between the Union, students and University's staff we have now identified over 400. We are now able to provide the support that Course Reps deserve; in turn improving your learning experience. The renovation still has much work to be done, however the Vice Chancellor and I are confident that this is a “big ball rolling that will be difficult to stop”
We now have an improving system that will benefit you. I expect the system to become a strong and an admired system in the coming years.
