Welcome to the law society

The City University Law Society is run by students for students. Although the main body of its members is made up of lawyers, you do not have to be a law student to join the Society. The Society organises academic, social and sporting events throughout the year to enhance the experience of studying law! In addition, the Society organises mooting and debating, as well as giving guidance on pro bono work. We also have a termly newsletter which keeps everyone informed on how events are being received! The Law Society can help you build your CV, meet fellow law students, and above all make the experience of studying law more enjoyable.

The Law Society is young and vibrant; having been re-invigorated last year, and is going from strength to strength. From a hugely increased membership base to securing sponsorship from Herbert Smith, the Law Society truly is working for you.

The committee have been working hard over the summer, and we’re justifiably proud of an exciting line-up of events, including ‘The Legislature: Questions to a Government lawyer and an MP’ with Shadow Transport Minister Alan Duncan MP, and Paul Jenkins, Solicitor for the Department of Health and The Department of Work and Pensions as guest speakers. See the Forthcoming Events page for details of the events in the run-up to Christmas.

There will be fortnightly debating, and monthly moots judged by guest barristers or judges, as well as an array of social and sporting events. Our Christmas party is unlikely to be rivalled and the summer garden party looks set to be a great success. Such social events can hopefully ease the pain of term time stress!

Members of the Society get free entrance to all academic events, access to the busy debating and mooting programmes, plus subsidised tickets to major social events. For only £5 a year, membership of the Law Society is well worth it.

All events will be posted on this website and published in the termly newsletter, as well as being listed in our fortnightly email, so keep your eye on this site to be kept up to date.

This is an exciting time for the Law Society. Please get involved and help your Society fulfil its potential. If you have any comments, questions or, especially, suggestions about our events, please feel free to contact the relevant committee member or the President.
